Description:  Steve Sandberg brings the fall color trip back into Wayzata after a trip to Willmar on the BNSF Wayzata sub. Before they made a brief station stop to disembark passengers that had boarded at Wayzata, Steve Sandberg and company wheeled their famous charge past a stopped eastbound freight on the Wayzata siding.

Title:  Skytop Obs First?
Description:  The 261 and the westbound fall color trip to Willmar nears the Old Crystal Bay Road overpass in Orono. It is interesting that the 261 was coupled up to the "Cedar Rapids" for the westbound leg of the Willmar trip. This doubtless was to allow the Amtrak unit to be on the hind end due to having to back up at Minneapolis Junction to gain access to the north leg of the wye there to access the Wayzata Sub. Note the spectators on the Willow Drive bridge at the upper left. Folks sure are well-informed about the 261! Who said people thought trains were boring?

Title:  The Traffic Resumes
Description:  Traffic on Highway 12 picks up speed again as the 261 fall color run to Willmar leaves Old Crystal Bay road behind it. Just visible in the upper right corner are a motorcyclist and an auto using the shoulder to get a better look at the 69 year-old Class S-3 Alco as Steve Sandburg and comapny work their magic. I bet even the State Patrol would let those shoulder-hugging motorists slide, considering the distraction they were contending with!

Description:  Steve Sandburg and company have their venerable 1944 Alco burning a fire in her grates that sent a white plume into the air as they wheeled the 2013 fall color trip to Willmar over the BNSF Wayzata sub on this crisp October morning. Here the 261 is passing signal 164. Ahead of the train lies the Louisiana Avenue overpass. I was the only railfan perched up here, happy to report! A dude going south on Louisiana honked his horn in appreciation for the train as it thundered underneath too.

Description:  The Friends of the 261's fall color jaunt to Willmar heads for Maple Plain and all points west to Willmar as the train thunders west paralell to US Highway 12. Note the bold souls in the upper right corner who actually pulled off the highway illegally! I think a State Trooper might not have granted those ralilfans a pass if a trooper happened along, train or no train. Some railfans catch all the breaks.
