Buiolt by Alco-Richmond in MAy of 1919, Southern Rwy 4-9-2 #1499 was a powerful addition to the Southern roster. Here it's heading up a long string of passenger cars. The loco lasted until being scrapped in March of 1953 at Hayne, SC. Specs - 69" drivers, 27 x 30" cylinders, a 200 psi boiler pressure, weighed 327,000 pounds and exerted 53,900 lbs of tractive effort.No date location or photographer was listed for the photo. |
