LIRR 345, DD-2, 1949
Description:
Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Modena, Pennsylvania, on 20 October 1949. Shown here is Long Island Rail Road engine #345 ~ consisting of #345-A on the right, and #345-B on the left. Both are DD-1 (2-B+B-2) electrics built in Juniata during June of 1911 and rated at 3,160 horsepower. They first served on the Pennsylvania Railroad, but were later sold to the LIRR in December of 1927. #345-A was originally numbered "3944," while #345-B was originally numbered "3946." Henry C.
