PRR 5760, EP-22, 1966 Editors Pick!
Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original telephoto that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5760 and more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5760 is an EP-22 built in November of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They're passing under four-track Signal Bridge #2417/6 with a 17-car mail and express train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Note that it's passing a slow-moving iron ore train. (#28 of 39)
